Did You Know Pakistan?
Over 250,000
This the number of Pakistanis still (in 2008) stranded in Bangladesh. These are mostly Urdu speaking Muslims from India (mostly from the state of Bihar) who left the ancestral homes in India to migrate to a new and better homeland called 'Pakistan'. These are the loyal Pakistanis who, in 1971, when many Bangalis began an insurgency to break away from West Pakistan, sided fully with the central government in West Pakistan and assisted the Pakistan Army in any way they could. For this reason, the Bengalis view them to this day as 'traitors' and refuse to give them any rights as citizens of Bangladesh.
The reward these Pakistanis received for their loyalty to their country from successive Pakistani leaders in Islamabad is a total refusal to accept them as citizens of Pakistan and to give them entry to Pakistan to resume their lives with their families.
Consequently, as a result of their love and loyalty to a united Muslim state called 'Pakistan' both the Muslim governments of Pakistan and Bangladesh are forcing these people (who sacrificed their everything when they left India) to live in squalid tent cities with no health or education facilities.
